Hi Guys, on my 78 Leyland clubby, I have the 3 gauge binnacle as you all know, speedo, combined fuel / water temp and Tacho. One of the jobs I want to do is a new dashboard layout. Is it possible to do away with the 3 gauge binnacle and have seperate fuel, water gauges etc as well as a different speedo and tacho??? I was thinking of the Smiths speedo and tacho gauges out of the MGB`s late 70`s era .

cheers

Jethro

Yes, quite possible (been done in fact).

You most likely will have to have the speedo re-calibrated to same as that from the Mini. Most half decent instrument repair shops can do that, just give the you new and old speedo so they can check your old one and make the new one the same.

Also it is likely you have to do some small wiring mods for the Tacho as most MGB ones are usually RCI (?) and yours will be an RVI (?) (or other way around). The short of it is ATM yours sensors the engine revs directly from the points, where as the MGB ones usually sense the current to the coil (and then the points). Be sure the MGB Tacho is also for Neg Earth as many are not. Not sure how difficult that is to swap over.

Fuel and Water gauges are straight forward, just be sure to use a voltage regulator. Wombat does these.
