is it strange that my 1100 motor has the small cartridge type oil filter?


this is the first time i've changed the filter since i've owned the car, so i assumed it would be the big filter and started the oil change, then realised it was the wrong filter.

guess i will have to go to bursons again tommorrow.

No I don't think it's all that strange, my 1976 998 Clubman had a spin on filter but the 1974 (I think) Van which is a 1098 had a cartridge type. I just chopped and changed bits and pieces when I put the 1098 into the 76 Clubman, one of those bits was the spin on filter housing. I've seen the kits for sale on the Minisport Aust web catalogue so I'm sure other suppliers will. That is, of course, you want to change.

my solution was take the spin on head off the third engine i had haha

Be careful buying spin-on filter kits- some now have a metric thread instead of the usual 1/4 BSP.

Yeah, and you wouldn't find out the thread was wrong until you were in the middle of changing oil and the shops are closed!

I think the one I fixed for somebody had a 14mm thread in it.
I drilled and retapped it to 5/8-18 UNF then used a Cooper S hose to block fitting, and a Pirtek 500psi hose and fittings.

If you wanted to keep the std banjo pipe though, it's best to tap it to 3/8 BSP then fit a 1/4 x 3/8 BSP reducing bush, and your original flare nipple.
