Post subject: | competition arches |
Hi all, were there any arches released in days gone by, ever called by the name of, or known as "competition flares"? Not as wide as miglias, but real neat like wood and pickett with no screw holes like innocenti, and made of fibreglass. I believe they were around 2 inch wide. Sorry, no pics at this stage, but from the description, does anyone recall them? I'll hopefully have pics over the weekend! |

These? ![]() They are referred to as Australian Group 2 or Competition flares. Part No: P/N C-AJJ3353. They are no longer available however I believe The Mini Man may be reproducing them (I hope). Ryan |

I refer to them as Mk2 Cooper S flares (wide). I am sure they are still available... Try Karcraft, Lindsay @ Pistons Auto, UK, etc.. maybe even Minisport SA as a last resort? |

Yes, I have them on mine and have seen them on other cars. They are fitted in exactly the same way as the standard BMC flares. I have noticed quite a few on SA'n cars probably because the law was strict there and if your car had 6in wide wheels (as mine does and is ex SA) then you needed these rather than the standard flare to be technically legal. On my car they seem to be a black plastic material but I have also seen fibreglass. Perhaps the plastic is original then some enterprising people have made copies over the years. As Ryan noted hopefully some copies are in the pipline. There's a surprising number on cars if you look carefully. Mine... ![]() Another... ![]() |

On my car they seem to be a black plastic material As far as I am aware, although they are factory parts they weren't factory fitted (the wide version that is) to any Mini, however, they may have been an option (factory or dealer). Part numbers C/HYL7012 Frant & Rear RH side & C/HYL7013 Front & Rear LH Side. They were made in black plastic, so yours are genuine I'd say ![]() You'd think they'd would have offered them in packages of Fronts or Rears, not Left and Rights ![]() From memory, at the top of the front guards, the stock Cooper S ones are 35 mm wide and these competion ones are 55 mm. Sorry Ryan, C-AJJ3353 are those crappy looking UK ones, yours are C/HYL7012 & C/HYL7013 (or good copies) ![]() |

There was even some sort of "recall" in SA for owners to return to have them retro-fitted I believe. |

I gave 2 of the wide front flairs to Bryan at Link about 3 or 4 months back, they were the genuine ones, I had a big garage clean up and thought I will never use these, so you could try there if your chasing a set. He may still have them, they were secondhand I took them off a Cooper S a few years back and put the correct thinner ones on it. |
