Post subject: | Who broke down at Ormeau on the motorway last night? 23/1/11 |
Was driving home, and saw a mini on the side of the road, at about quarter to 11 i think it was... southbound near exit 45 at Ormeau.. I would have normally stopped to help anytime as I has all my tools with me, but i was already an hr late for picking up my brother on the coast, so couldn't stop... I felt so bad, but I'm wondering is it anyone on here, or anyone that went on the run yesterday?? Spotted thread explains in more detail here: http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic ... 501#787501 It looked like Nick's mini on here (NG) but was hard to tell in the dark flying past.. Anyone on here?? |

it was me locky. i decided to give my alloy radiator one last go in cooling, it let me down big time. i was doing a charity gig on the gold coast to rais money for QLD floods. I could not make & it cost me a whack of money! they raised a good amount though, so im glad. my car over heated badly. i did not want to risk it so i just sat my car & got a tow home. i have put a minispares super 2 core in today & using my plastic radiator fan combined with thermo & it's fixed my problems, no more over heating. tested it on highway, was a good tow as well $ 300! eeek. no way i was going to leave it there. oh well at least the car is not over heating on the highway now. ![]() im sure everyone has had great success with those alloy rads but not me, maybe i have a faulty one my 2 core rad is working great & cooling is the best it has ever been. |

So you're saying the alloy rad is all bling and not much good? I'll stick to my aussie rad thats served me very well I'd also be checking the mixture at cruise on the hwy Nick. A bit too much advance or too little fuel or both = overheating. even on my stocko 998. |

noice spotting ![]() ![]() I felt so bad for not stopping, but I had a VERY IMPATIENT big brother waiting to be picked up on the coast, and was calling me every 5 mins... ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm glad you got it sorted mate.. but as nav says I would look at the mixture, that night was dead cold on the highway, something was badly wrong for it to overheat that night.. seems like something was either blocked, ie the rad, or the thermostat was stuck closed, ORR the mixture is not always right at different speeds especially on the highway.. theres a good chance your leaning out on the highway... bwhahah get it,,, "leaning out" ok so i suck at jokes ![]() I can almost guarantee that that alloy rad is now blocked, and your block had some crap in it that was dislodged the first time you put it in, and its been bad ever since,, just that night was the trigger,, especially if that's the longest continual run you've done on it for a while, out of town traffic..i bet you $100 that alloy rad is blocked ![]() I'll take it for free and fix it and use in my sedan if you don't want it. ![]() |
