So next saturday is the First round of the victorian hillclimb championship, i was wondering if any one is going. itll be my first bitumen hillclimb and me and dad will be competing in our moke. It is being held at haunted hills in gippsland and competition starts at 1 and runs into the night. date is 29 january 2011. If you want to enter be quick cause entries close at 5 pm tommorow. You can get supp regs through the gippsland car club website. So can any one give me some tips for hillclimbing, ive been doing khanas for the past 2 years and have done a few autocrosses. There must be some main points for driving fast on bitumen

Don't overdrive the corners which is easy to do while you're leaning the circuit. Brake early and power out out the corners. Get on Youtube. There are a number of in car videos of the circuit, so you have some idea before you go.

thanks i never thought of youtube, ill do that now. Thanks for that. Ill try not to overdrive the corners.

For every one, we will be running our 13x8s on the front with Yoko A048s and we would run our 13x7s on the rear but tyres are a bit average, So we might run our 13x5.5s with A048s on the rear. So it might be a bit of oversteerish

I look forward to seeing you there Stephen, I used to hillclimb a Moke in the Open Sports Car class many years ago.

If the category/class you're running in permits it - remove your windscreen and fit a short aeroscreen or no screen at all - you'll need to wear a full-face helmet with visor, or open face with goggles/visor. If the class regs permit it, remove any additional weight that you can such as soft top frames, rubber matting, additional seats etc.
Consider running 10" wheels, it'll increase your acceleration, lower your cente of gravity and weight.
Arrive at Bryant Park early and get some practice laps under your belt, maybe even take somebody around with you who knows the track to determine braking points, cornering lines and gear change points. It's a great track, but it takes some learning to get right.
I'll be there running my Group N (historic) Cooper S #42. Drop by and say g'day.

ok curly ill be sure to drop bye and say g'day. For your interest there will also be two other minis out there competing, so it will be game on for the mini drivers, but im sure your car is set up alot better than theres.

Allso for every one tomorow dad and i will be changing the front suspension from cones to coils. and replacing the rear shocks from the tired bilsteins to fully adjustable ones. we will also tune the motor abit, Get the most out of it before it blows up cause of no oil pressure. But when it goes bang the 1440 stroker should be ready by then anyway.

Might be a better idea to use another car?

nah, this motor will do for a couple of months, there is oil pressure just not much, safe enough to hillclimb. So no the moke will be there to hillclimb, The motor needs a rebuild so we will get what we can out of it before it becomes a 1293.

And our other cars arnt ready to hillclimb yet.

Carter , i think it would be better to rebuild this tired engine , BEFORE it goes BANG !,
at least you should be able to save it, doing it the other way, there is a chance that you could stuff it altogether, just my thoughts. Have fun at the hillclimb anyway .

I think i may have not got the facts right people. The mokes motor is still fine but its starting to lose a tiny bit of oil pressure. So sorry if i made it sound worse than what it is. So to make my point clear the mokes motor is fine

So why not just fiddle with the oil pressure regulator?
