Hey Guys

My car is almost completely back to health but I am having some trouble with my front left Park Light /Indicator. After my little episode the bulb blew and took out the fuse which does my fuel gauge and idicators. I replaced the bulb and fuse last night but i cant get the parker to light up with the headlights, the bulb will flash with the indicators but not stay on for the lights.. (hope that makes sense)

Any ideas??

Sounds very much like a poor earth from the body of the indicator to the car body itself. Easy fix.

Also have a good look at the bulb holder that the terminals
At the base are ok and not damaged or shorting. Use a multi meter to see
If you have juice for flashers and parkers. Work your way backward
Checking wires for correct power.

I'll take a look, it just seems weird that the indicators work

Not really strange at all as it's all separate. The globe should be a twin filament, like a brake globe. So when you pop on you parkers the dimmer of the two filiments glows. When flashers going the brighter filament is working. Apart from sharing an earth they are totally separate.

There should be 3 wires to the fitting, black is earth then a wire for the flasher and one for the parker. Likewise if you look into the base of the fitting and at the globe itself you'll see two terminals, one is parker one flasher. The body of the fitting and the globe is earth.

Have you got the correct globe? Check both filiments are working. If you have the correct globe and fitting you can only put the globe in one way because the pins on the side are offset.

As I say start with the globe and work your way back. Compare with the working side also.

My front right parker light occasionally stops working. When this happens, I tap it with my finger - this has got it working every time without fail.

Ah, lucas electronics...

So I got it all working again but the fuse just blew... It was a 15amp and I just replaced it with a 25amp, will that be ok?

The old tap technique works on the front right one haha

The fuse might not blow again...... but a spike or increase in current may burn out something else that can't take the excess. Likely to burn out the switch before the fuse again.

Reminds me a bit of the story about the fuse that kept blowing so they used a 22 bullet.

haha yeah, just don't know where else to check, the fuse also does the fuel gauge, could be something to do with that... sigh...

The fuses are there to stop your wiring from burning out so no, stay with the original fuse rating. If it is blowing, there is a need to find the problem. That is cheaper than having to replace a wiring loom..

The same thing applies to houses and wives.. When you overload the fuse and have a catastrophic event they are rarely the same again and more often than not turn out to be a very expensive affair
