Post subject: | Help in SA |
Hey there everyone, I have recently moved to Adelaide for work and don't really know anyone down here or know any of the mini businesses around the traps. I took the mini for a blast through the hills just after the mini arrived (it was shipped down) and after a few hours of driving, the front passenger wheel got the wobbles. I got out and had a look and two, not one, but TWO wheel studs had sheared/snapped.... Not seen this or heard of this happening before. I ended up getting the mini towed home and it has sat there for a couple of weeks. I was thinking of doing the repairs myself, but want a little piece of mind. I am living in the CBD and either need to get it somewhere or remove the hub and install new studs myself. It has just had a new 7.5inch disc set up installed on it so there may have been something there that caused the breakage. I was thinking of doing all the studs on the front following this incident... Anyone got any suggestions/thoughts? Thanks, Simon Should I get it towed? Remove the hubs and install new studs? |

Yeah the studs were sheared clean off. Lost the wheel nut too... Running a set of these http://www.midlandwheels.com/Shop/P-2175-5-x-10-Minilight-Matt-Black-All-Over---Red-Rim--165/70x10-Yokohama-A008.html Cheers, Simon |

They look very little different to a Contessa (which is what I run, 10x5). Are you certain all the wheel nuts were torqued correctly? Have you allowed any grease monkeys to do them up with a rattle gun? These are too big for our widdle studs, and stretch or break them outright. Likewise, if they were loose then the wheel moving around could easily be enough to break the studs, I've had that happen before ![]() If I were you I'd be replacing all of them, unless you know they're good... |

i think studs is a pretty easy job to do at home if you have basic tools? you can buy the studs online or from a local mini shop there is newport motors on port road, or minisport on south road. morris mania at kent town would be the closest but i think they are closed now? |

I don't really have a work bench at my new place. Also getting the hub nut off, will that pose any difficulties? Are there any tricks to getting them off? Cheers for all your help guys. I will look into those mini suppliers/garages. Thanks, Simon |

Also said that it just had a set of disks fitted - probably the studs weren't pressed (pounded with FBH) all the way it. Check all the others. On the side - did you have longer studs and spacered drums fitted to the rear at the same time? - if so check that those studs are pressed all the way in too. |

I've never belted them all that hard when I've fitted mine. In fact, 9 times out of 10 I do it with the drive flange on the car, and just press them in with a set of vice grips, then tug them all the way onto the splines with a wheel nut and a few washers... |
