Got a urgent phone call from my best mate today, one of his work mates own a clubbie and on the way home they tried to be silly and race each other at the lights ![]() ![]() lights turn green... right foot pedals go to the floor and SNAP... hmmmm guessed it yet???? nope not BANG... but SNAP... ![]() ![]() Got the phone call saying "hey mate, do you have a spare throttle cable?? Oh and do you know how to fit one?" ![]() ![]() So out I come with my one and only spare throttle cable, (almost brand new should I point out) however it wasan't a mini outta cable,, i use different sorts now and grind the ends to fit in the flanged holders... anyway.. out I come with cables and tools, generator and grinder... and pull the old one outta the twin carbies.. start the genny up and cut the cables to length both the inner and outta and grind the outta cable down a bit at each end to slot into teh flanges (if that's what you like to call it) bolt her all up, start her up and was done in 15mins.. ![]() all the time the young fella and his mates are talking quitely amoungst themselves that I'm going to charge him like $200 buks call out fee, etc, ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() He so wanted to give me some money for it, but to me it just felt so nice to help someone who otherwise would have got RACQ and a tow home for a silly throttle cable repair,,, I think he felt so bad for me not wanting anything for it, but I see it as being another mini owner I'm now friends with around my area ![]() Got talking and he was telling me it was his fathers and his just allowed to drive it to work, and how it gets "hot" etc etc, im like yeahhhh,, hmm how hot,, "oh umm as high as the gauge will go.." ![]() ![]() ![]() "oh and it does this too he says......" "ohh and the brakes are crap.. and the clutch bounces ![]() ![]() I can see how he stuggles to drive the thing safely.. so have now made myself a friend whos keen for me to fix all this for him and his father... ![]() ![]() ![]() Arhh ok so this was a LONG STORY,, but I had to put it up,, I just feel so happy inside right now ![]() ![]() |

Have a look at my mini build and you will see what I mean ![]() If you can get my mini to the stage of needing a new throttle cable on your passing visit I will pay you $500 an hour ![]() |

Nice Job... The world needs more like you.. I broke a throttle cable when I was 18 and didn't have friends like you to fix it for me. I had to rely on ingenuity. All i had was a flat head screw driver. So I adjusted the idle up to around 3.5k and drove 20ks home on the idle. If you wanted to slow down you had to turn off the ignition... Did the job... |

Yup been there, somehow lost the nut which holds the throttle cable onto the carbie and had to drive home on fast idle ![]() I've also driven home with the choke cable as an impromptu accelerator ![]() |

![]() reminds me of some local folk who used a moke as a wood cart... piled the wood in the moke & drove home using the choke cable while sitting atop of the lumber ![]() |
