This might sound like a silly question, but how do you tell what size a mini engine is? I cant find anything saying what size it is. ![]() |

Check the engine number for a start Apart from Cooper S's.., if its 1st prefix number is 8 it's an 850, 9 is 997 or 998, 10 is 1098, 12 is 1275. 99 is a 998. Or rather they were,.. when built. ![]() ![]() |

You *can* put 1100 pistons on a 1000 crank... They stick out the top of the bore, and give you MASSIVE compression, and they clear the head somehow, too... just some things you see around the traps. People just assume the engine number when ordering parts, and dont check the stroke measurements. Amatures. Oh well. At least they still go, and dont try to knock the head clean off the block. |

see avatar..... ![]() 99H8 block = 998 motor (in theory) Add a 1098 crank, bore it +.020", and you have an 1115cc 998 motor.... ![]() ![]() |

1100 crank and a overbore, by lets see danidad's was .040 and came out at 1132 so I am guessing a 0.30 overbore. ![]() Can you still get 0.030 thirty thou overbore 1100 pistons ![]() I had read somewhere they were not made anymore and you had to go to 40 thou ones ![]() |

stroking a 998 is silly, they're bulletproof stock! 1100 cranks are weak. |

The my 1100 is way more fun than my 998 lots more torque which is what I want. You have a 1100 anyways says so in your signature ![]() Do these really bust that often? I had heard that the 1100s from other BMC cars (non minis) had larger cranks how do these go? does anyone know what engine numbers these were? |
