Didn't want to hijack Montgomery's thread but just wanted to know .... All lights, blinkers, fan everything works fine in my car but I have noticed some burnt out insulation on sections on some of my wiring. Until I get the car back I can't really tell u what colour it is exactly but I know it runs to the alternator. Earth? Mayb Apart from replacing the whole loom where could i start with some short term solutions. Can I heat shrink smaller sections or just go as far back as I can and replace complete sections of the wiring. |

If it's alternator cabling it's only a short run anyway, to the solenoid block. How many amps are you drawing approximately? Big sound system? Original wiring? There is no earth as such on an alternator.. two +ve wires and one going off to the alternator warning light. Test between the wire and ground also to see if there's any short which would be heating up the cable and causing the outer to melt.. |
