Post subject:  Mini ID and other stuff I need help with?
Hi All

I went to a mates place today to have a look at his dads mini that he wants to offload. Has twin tanks and 7.5 disks on the front.

The number on the rad cowl is 5583 w/ M2/?? (couldnt make out the numbers below). And the No on the firewall is 6088.

Can anyone tell me what kind of mini this is?

And one of the rear wheel studs has come loose and fallen inside the drum, how do I go about removing the drum assembly to fix this?

Thanks for any advise you may be able to provide me. And if the answers are obvious im sorry but I really dont know a great deal about minis.

With a number like that, it could easily be a Cooper S - it should be M2 06. There are a million threads about identifying a cooper s, have a quick search

drums are easy to get off, you need to back off the adjuster on the back of the brake assembly which is a square and takes a 5/16" (8mm) spanner. There should be 2 screws through it, undo those, and the drum ought to come off. Sometimes they are stuck on a bit, so screw a wheel nut a short way (so you're tapping the nut, not the stud) onto two of the remaining studs and tap them with a hammer (tap towards the drum, not sideways)

I thought it wouldnt be to hard to get the drums off, just wasnt 100% sure.

It shouldn't be a Cooper S as the numbers appear to be a little high.

My own guess (and it is only a guess at this stage) is a 65 Deluxe.

To have the M2 bit on the radiator cowl panel it has to be a roundie and even then it has to be before the change to the "K" and "Mk2 S"

The last Mk1 was number 5486 so it can't be a Mk1.
The numbers are too high for a Matic.
It can't be a K or Mk2 S.
Number is too high for a Mini Minor.

Did it have an ID plate?

Sorry no, but will get some when I go back.
(I need to buy a new batt for my camera, it wont hold charge any more)
