Post subject:  Replacing A Panels
Hi All,

I'm a bit confused...

I've got a Heritage A Panel for my 61 but when I removed the paint from the car I couldn't find where the panel seperates at the bottom.

Was the original a one piece along the bottom of the door up to the body line?

Any pics would be greatly appreciated.

I've nearly finished reskining the drivers door so I'll be onto the A panel next.

Hi Ian, the original panel was one whole side of the car. So you have to cut and join it at the best place to suit.

I have to do both my A-panels soon (and a lot of other stuff as well!)

Heres a pic of my 850 van A panel before I replaced it. You can see the join line at the bottom that you normally cant see, but as the shell has been blasted it has removed the filler that nomally covers this join.

My dads mini k van is exactly the same. I was trying to figure out why?

did the panel van side dies not go the whole length like the sedans so when tthe panels were pressed and made into a car they had to add a bit extra to account for it?

I think all van sides were 2 piece, look above the doors, you will find another join... :wink:

Yeah i have and down the edge where the goor closes, you can see another join right the way along.

I was just a bit puzzled as to why?

you can replace these panels in fiber glass now.

anyone reckons that a good idea? no more rust?

Thanks Guys.

I thought it must have been one piece but I had seen 850man's pic and thought I'd ask before I got too carried away.

Two days off now so maybe I'll get to finish the door (as long as it doesn't rain here in dry old Goulburn :) )

I suppose I should ask if I'd be better off replacing the drivers floor before I do the A panel to help keep the old girl from folding along the Flintstone floor area.

Does your inner a-panel need fixing also? sometimes they rust right though into the wheel arch and floor pan (mine did)

If this is the case i think it would be better doing the a-panel first and then fixing all the stuff in there and then remove your floor pan. (it shouldnt crumple as as i asume you still have the passenger floor in and the tunnel there as well as under the door and the sill?

My opinion.

But if you dont have the above i think do the floor first

I have a brand new clubby side panel that is all one piece wife's 850 van is seperate a panel / door opening
