In the process of rebuilding the motor on my '70S. On teardown, here's the oil pump I found:
It has a triangle pattern for the mounting bolts.
I had ordered the Swiftune SW5-07 kit some time back, and plan to install that cam, timing gears, lifters and oil pump. But the Swiftune oil pump uses two bolts, top and bottom, instead of the triangle pattern. Trouble is, the old pump has a different drive than the new one, so I can't use the old pump (which is near new) with the new cam. Swiftune says to drill a hole in the block, and they say it's a common mod.
Unfortunately the cams for the two pumps are not interchangeable, so I have to use one or the other. The old pump seems to be a better design, because it has a recess in the cover that supports the other end of the pump cam shaft; the swiftune has a very stout cover plate though, and I'm sure it has no trouble retaining the cam.
What say you all?
Ben
