G'day all

Doing a clean up in my garage and re-found this item. Thought it would make for an interesting chat topic.

My mother in law gave it to me for my birthday about 10 years ago. She picked up from a second hand shop for a couple of bucks. The fellow told her that it was used on a police spec cooper s.

I have no idea how true or authentic this is but interested in any thoughts/feed back. I'm assuming it was for unmarked police cars?

Here is a picture of it fitted

And with it turned on

Well, the unmarked NSW Police Cooper S that stopped me back in 1969, had none in it. Just an unhappy policeman.

I'm fairly sure that's what was used back in the day. I think it used to somehow hang from the side front window. If its ever for sale please let me know!

True. It kinda suits the period though........ werent they were pretty rough in making the seats suit the larger framed cops? And the sun visors were they hand made?

Police Cooper S's only ever had winding windows, so wouldn't be an issue

The way it's made does suit the period for that kind of addition

Thanks again for the replies.

I have recieved a few PM's about it and it appears to be authentic. As stated by others it is supposed to be mounted on top of the glass on the passengers side door.

I cant show you as my mini is sliding windows.

I was fairly involved with NSW ex - Police mini back then. I have never seen anything like that.

Some of the very late mini coopers had the magnetic blue lights but they really only came on strong with the Torana GTRs.

The HK - HT station car Holdens of the time had blue flahing lights on roof racks and were clearly identifiable by their pastel blue colour. I dont know about the various unmarked detective type cars but i suspect their colour would have been a consistant blue colour raher than an ambulance or fire engine red ????

It is an ex-NSW Police item. Following photos were supplied by a retired policeman who drove the Cooper S's in the late 1960's/early 1970's. I've been searching for one for some time to use when I display my cars but I think most were trashed when no longer required.

As stated above they were either hung from the passenger side window (wind-up windows) or held by the driver and pointed to the offending motorist. The one below has had the hanging straps removed.

Thanks winabbey........... I wondered when you were going to pipe in.

It is an unusual thing to acquire as my mother in law knew i liked minis but it would be 9 years later before i actually owned one.

I had always wondered whether it was genuine police mini cooper s equipment.

Thanks for your input and photo.
