Ok i got in the mini today; went for a drive. Got back in the car and came home. Parked it in the driveway. Went inside. Go back outside to drive it under the carport and turn the key... i notice that the ALT and OIL lights do not light... HRMMM. I then try to wipe the windscreen clear so i can see where im gonna park it.... no windscreen wipers... get frantic and try the lights... yep the lights work... get out of the car to check the parkers... yep; go round the back and check the brake lights and they only come on when the lights are on... not when the brake pedal is pressed... also the windscreen pump has no power to it either. Horn works. Lights work. Interior lights work. Indicators DO NOT. Windscreen Wipers DO NOT. ALT and OIL lights DO NOT. Brake lights DO NOT. Please help. Me thinks it is a fuse somewhere but ive swapped over the two fuses in the useless fusebox already. (Its a clubby btw) Will. |

Definitely sounds fuse related to me. One of the fuses always has power to it, the other one only has power to it when the key is in the on position. The items that you've described as 'not working' are on the key-controlled fuse I'm pretty sure. dewey |

certainly fuses come to mind...there are 2 in the "useless fuse holder" and one up under the wiper panel on the right hand side(in the harness). the other thing that comes to mind is the fuse holder itself, the terminals are renowned for not making contact....remedy is to lightly sand terminals and replace fuse and then coat in vasaline, and replace cover..see how that goes |

Headlights are imdependent of fuses, horn is on the always on fuse, so is the interior light. Indicators and wipers are on the on on ignition fuses. Not sure about clubbys, but generaly panel lights should be independent of fuses, shouldnt they as the bulb is itself a fuse? Now are you saying that your brake lights come on constantly when your headlights are on even without the brake pedal being depressed? |

Wicked so now i know its a bloody fuse; i will check that out a bit later on. The brake lights come on when the headlights are on. You know, that dimness to let people see you from behind. The rear numberplate light is on too. Will. |

I had a similar problem but only my brake lights and indicators wouldnt work. I checked all the fuses they were all good... then I checked the earth points and it came back... so might be a good idea to check the earth points as well ![]() |

Oh for flying fuxks sake. Ok i am pleased to tell you all that the problem was solved. It was a loose bullet (white wire) into the plug that goes to the steering column. OOOOK now i go to the back of the car and realise that the Right indicator is (bright) and solid on. The left one is also on but dim. Ahh farken hell. Now before i call the auto electrician to fix it tomorrow, do u know what it could be. I've prodded around at all the wires behind the dash but didnt want to do any swapping as i'm sure i'd fudge it up more. Please help WILL. |

Heh same in SA. Well the problem is that they are both on constantly... only the rear ones and the right one is brighter than the left one. |

it sounds more like an earth problem. Whenever the Prince of Darkness is involved you can find some odd things happening. If the earthis dodgy, you can find current flowing up other wires and doing things its not supposed to. Remember, electricity is like water, it will always take the easiest route. I would be hunting down all the earths on the car.. (desperately trying to remember locations here.. it's been a few years since my last mini and I haven't touched the wiring loom in the new project yet) and make sure all the connections are bright. If you are worried about rust after brightening them up, a little touch up pen can be used to cover the points once you've finished. |
