Post subject: | Weird glass stains |
You all know about Pops right..... On his rear window, it looks like ther are stains in the glass. It appears that rain(?) or whatever had beaded on the glass (just like on your paint when you have a good layer of wax) and the water beads have etched into the glass. When I am driving it is actually hard to see out the back window, because of these marks. Anyone else seen this phenomenon on their own car? I spose I will have to replace the glass, unless anyone can suggest a way of 'cleaning' it?!? |

You'll get used to it. I have a dodgy window tint in the back of one of my cars, everything looks out of focus. You'll just have to try the harshest cleaner you can find, just keep it away from the paint and rubber. |

You can buy a glass polish which will take these marks out but I can not remember were from. Pete |

Maybe you could try steam cleaning it. That cleans just about anything if you are patient enough. Good for defrosting fridges too. |

used to get etching in the glass on cars parked near the aluminium smelter i used to work at before they put the wet scrubbing system in. it was from all the hydroflouric acid in the emissions from the smelting operation....... |

Putt putt has the same stains, i think it is the glass delaminating and allowing water into it hence the smokiness in it. I will have to replace it for rego, but shannons will do that for me! ![]() Cheers Aaron |

Thsi happens with optical instruments as well when minerals are leached out of the glass. In their case it's the fungal growths that form inside the cameras or binoculars in high humidity climates that cause it. |
