Post subject: | small bore cam into 1275? |
Was wondering if a cam from a 998/1100 will fit a 1275 motor, as long as i change the oil pumps to match? I think i remember hearing that the lobes in a 1275 are wider than a small bore one. I Did hear that they will fit, just wanted to find out benefits/disadvantages, possibility and if so why dont people do it? (ie people look for a 1275 cam to regrind rather than than just regrind a small bore one) Thanks Brenton |

Sure it works. The cams are same overall length, only difference as you say is the lobes are 1/8" wider on a 1275. Do wide ones last longer? I dunno, but I've seen 1275s run fine for years with reground smallbore cams in em. One had a Kent MD286 grind on it. The main prob these days with using any pin drive cams in a 1275 is finding Cooper S oil pumps with the longer pin- they are NLA in UK. In the old days when most pumps were Concentric brand you could swap the pins by pressing them out. Not applicable now with many of the aftermarket pumps. You can convert a pin drive cam to slot drive then use a Metro 1300 pump, see my sticky thread in the mods forum. |
