Know that carpet fitted to the early minis everyone raves about but can't seem to find? With some searching I found the distributor in Australia (It's Irish made) and he will sell a small amount of it (They just supplied 5000 meters to a Sydney University so 6 sq meters is not very much) for $88 per meter on 2 meter wide rolls. He's even been good enough to send me a sample. God Bless Google! I thought this stuff was rocking horse crap the way some people go on about it. But I'm happy

So if you are getting it 'roll' form how are you going to put the 'edging' on it? JC |

with a retail of $1300 a set or $110/m from Mini Spares and repairs in Padstow, (got a set from Lownblown for a fraction of the price. very grateful) ive kept every inch of mine. the scraps are put in the little corners where you can stroke your finger across it and sigh. pics somewhere there www.angelfire.com/mech/ducho |

I'll cut the patterns myself and then take it to a trimmer. Performing edging ain't rocket science, nor is it made of gold thread. Time is money so if the majority of the work is done it shouldn't take more than an hour or two of his time to stitch it up. I figure 44 dollars a sq meter (88 per roll meter @ 2 meters wide) beats 110 and at 1100 dollars per set, one or two hours at the motor trimmer at roughly 90 dollars an hour makes good sense as well. |

If you ring the local contact She'll put you onto Andy Green in QLD. His number is 0418 254 884. If you're after some as well, we could split the freight. (69.50 flat divided by two) It's 79.50 + GST per roll meter (2meters wide, so 2 sq. meters) + the freight. Apparently 6 Sq meters is needed for the mini carpets. |

Well you can get a grandma with a sewing machine to do it too but then whats the point in going to all the expense and trouble of Wesminster if youre not getting a proffesional finish (and You'll never get a proffesional finish without a proffesional I reckon). |

Yeah whatever, I got the same information from someone else of similar stature. If I buy more I buy more. Still beats 1100 a set. And it's not rocket science, minis wern't built by NASA whatever the paparazzi might tell you. If you pull apart a mini, what do you find? Very simple construction methods. VERY simple. No special stitches - just primtive patterns, simple designs. They are incredibly easy to replicate with a liitle work. There was no magic sewing machines or gold threads either. It is simply industrial grade carpeting. Hate to blow that Cooper S bubble. You will notice that the carpets are laid out on tiles, each are 31.5 cm squares. They lay out in the correct grain direction with plenty of room in between to a total of 6 by seven tiles which equals 190 cm * 221 cm.. This equals 4.1 square meters. The carpet comes on 2 meter wide rolls, so if I was confident that I would cut them out accurately, I would order 2 roll meters. But I won't, so I'll buy a couple of meters more.

Don't know about that....but what I do know is that in its day....westminister was indeed fairly cheap comercial carpet that not many people wanted in their homes....businesses..yes. |

mate if you want me to lift out my west carpets ill be happy to because theres a little contour around the gear shift and that bump next to it for the starter button |

Mick I deffinately might be in - when were you thinking of ordering? but I will prob. be looking for a prof to do atleast the edging - i've got enough mechanical problems to keep me occupied. |

I'm having a sample sent to me now so might be two weeks off by the time the funds are approved by my Minister for War and Finances. The slush fund has been bled dry so must go through the official channels this time 
I would do the same, a home sewing machine would,t be up to it, nor would my fingers. |
