I know i asked this on MM's site but it hought i would ask here as there is a greater number of brains here all on at the same time.

have a simple question if you drag race a mini at 5800ft above sea level and so the standing 1/4 in 15.2secs is there a calculation that you can use to get a time at sea level or would it be guess work?

I'm guessing you would have to figure out how much more airflow it will have at sea level and then adjust the horsepower / times in relation to that but this would I imagine be only a guess and would not be real accurate.

So if it draws 2% more air at sea level(being denser) then you might be able to say that the horsepower could increase by 2% and therefore factor it into the 1/4 mile time.

Vizard's yellow book has a formula and tables for working out horsepower based off 1/4 mile times and the top speed over the 1/4 mile but your speedo has to be dead accurate otherwise it throws the results out. Maybe this formula in reverse would help you.

just wondering about where these figures came from...??? asking a south african might be a good idea and A they had minis(not that this is a mini specific question) and B they haver a big altitude range..
nothing like hands, and lungs on experience

its the south african we are talking about. i have got the calculations form the NHDRA web site as a couple of there strips are at the same altitiude.
It equates to .9 of a second but also take into fact that there is less air resistance at higher altitude (like a rugby ball being kicked in joburg will fly further than one at the coast) so its a little out as the cars that they race are as aerodynamic as a tear drop really, unlike the brick we drag race.
so .7 was an even number we came up with so a 15.2sec 1/4 mile ina 1460mini will be equvilent to a 14.5 at sea level which in any book is very quick.
