I have custom made Moto Lita steering wheel with a boss suited to a Lotus (I think :?: ) and wanted to know if anyone knew of a shop that could either re-machine the current boss to suit a mini or make a new one.

It's a great wheel and I would love to be able to use it.

p.s. I did contact Moto Lita in the UK. They were great and said they could do it. The price was frankly obscene.

As always, would appreciate any help here.

Sorry! It would help if I had the right manufacturer wouldn't it

Karcraft lists a wheel boss for $45 approx, and I think it's a Mountney to suit their wheels.
Ring em and ask.

a mountney to mini boss is a pretty easily sourced item.

i know Andrew has the boss's. I'd go out on a limb and say he'd probably sell one separately to the wheel :)

Thanks guys, appreciate that.

Now if it is a custom boss made by Mountney and their standard bosses don't fit, which I think is the case here, where do I go. Is there anyone you know of in OZ that works on/makes 'em?

you'd want to get the PCD off of the wheel. It probably won't be on there, you'll have to measure it.

then check the universal fitting bosses that minisport sell or find a friendly machinist who can re-work another boss.

i reckon it'd be easier to redrill and tap another mini boss to suit the wheel rather than re-spline the boss you've got to suit the mini....

hey Doc know any machinists capable?

Hiya,

The nine-hole bosses on eBay UK fit Moto-Lita wheels:

Or get a Mountney boss - three holes line up exactly, and drill six new ones.

cheers! jon

EDIT:
this one is under $50 delivered and will do the job. You could probably get that back by flogging the Lotus one on eBay (either here or UK).

I have modified/redrilled a few Mini bosses for different wheels but can't respline any, nobody seems to have a broach that suits.

Thanks guys. From what I can see my boss is a custom Moto Lita; it's much smaller than those on eBay.

Back to finding a shop to work on it methinx.

bummer

Sounds a bit dodgy but the guys on th Mk1 forum in th UK suggest using the end of a spare steering column as a broach. I suppose it would be ok in alloy.
