Post subject:  Front Cone Removal - They're Stuck!
Hi all.

I was having a go at removing the front cones today. The point I got stuck at is seperating the hi-lo from the cone. They're stuck. I've sprayed with penetrant, had a bash and prise and all sorts of stuff.

Has anyone got any clever ideas to get them apart?

Also, does the cone come out without having to drop the front arm?

Can't say I've had Hi-lo's stick in the donut but I have no doubt that they could, just as the stock trumpets nearly always do.

I have a Big Screw Driver, without the handle, that I've sharpened to a near fine chissel. I tap that in between the trumpet and the donut, angling it more towards the trumpet. Eventually the trumpet moves a little, then you can go to something like a tire lever. Might have to rotate it all to get at it from more than one side.

You will have to take the top arms out to get it all out. Not difficult, just fiddley.

Hi mate, as far as i am aware even with the hilow set all the way to its shortest length you still cant get the cone and hilow out at the same time without removing the upper control arm first. i did mine recently and had to remove the upper arms to get them out.

in saying that, i had some people tell me they had gotten theirs out without removing the arm, but i couldnt work out how.

once you have the cone and hilow out of the car, put it in a vice and give it a few good wacks with a BFH. i also used some large flat bladed screwdrivers to pry it off the hilow. obviously this is much easier out of the car and in a vice.
