I am stuck out in the bush without my workshop manual. Is there a copy of the WD as shown in the supplementary manual on line here? You know, the one you cant hardly read coz Leyland were too lousy to use proper printing! Thanks |

Hi good buddy, 1979 Californian, neg earth, alternator. Remember the problem I had before? No 12 volts at the coil when you switch from ""ignition "to "start'". I changed the column eventually, but no good, so I tested the swithch in situ and it seems OK to me. I twigged that even I could not be that unlucky to have two columns both with faulty switches. I re-wired the beast some years ago when I did the full resto, so I've cocked up the wiring somewhere, but buggered if I know, so I thought I'd go back to square one & check everything from the bible. I brought everything with me to Bainsdale, but no frigging WSM. Cheers. |

Good to see you buddy ![]() OK. You'll have a BROWN wire that comes from the starter solenoid to the IGN Switch. That one is +ve and live all the time. WHITE wire coming off the IGN Switch is the switched +ve and should only be live when ON. WHITE with RED trace is live when in the START. Check the pins & sockets on the plug, they might need cleaning and / or spreading. There could also be a brocken wire inside the plug. Also check all the BROWN wires on the solenoid are clean and tight. That part of the wiring harness (from a schematic diagram point of view) is the same as most Mini's. |

OK thanks GT. Looks like I'll be twisted upsidedown under the dash for a while. Thats about the only way of checking things without pulling the dash apart which as you know is a right PITA. Will keep you posted. Pete |

I don't know if the moke wiring diagrams were generic once alternators took over from generators, but this is the diagram I have. EDIT: OOPs, wrong files..hang on a minute.. |

Here we go... I never noticed that a moke was a moke, but a two seater was a pick-up. I thought they were all just mokes.. ![]() ![]() |
