Went out today with Gumby, after he sat in the Garage mostly since I've been back from my trip, been catching the Bus into uni to give him a rest etc. Went out to do an on site construction site visit for our assignment, came back to find this...

Sh** hit the roof of course when I noticed it.. i couldn't believe it.. no note to say sorry and their details... nope that would have been too easy for them...

First thing I did was go around the street asking if anyone heard or saw what happened,, but the people in the street were the sort who wouldn't even know if someone was bashing down their front doors.. i struggled to get hold of most of them  too busy listening to their ipods in their ears or off in the fairies etc... no one heard or saw it.. :(

Really don't know what to do atm.... it may look like nothing much, and yes I do have spare doors in a different colour, just means that the trailer project that they were for, wont be no longer :(

Not just the doors that's the problem however,,, any of you who have vans will know how weak the back part of the car is, and prone to twisting etc... its all outta shape because of the side panel on the left pushed a good 4 cm's inside the car than it should be.. causing the doors as you can see to not close... the passenger door was crushed and pushed into the inside of the car.. the Tyre I think saved the other door getting bashed more..

You can see from pictures 3 and 4, how compared to the RHS corner panel of the car is, compared to the LHS corner panel where its been pushed a good 3-4 cm's inside the car from its original point...

It's going to require some panel beating tools which I don't have and cant afford :'( Not sure how I'm going to go about it to be honest.. :(

Yes it's fixable,, but its my only daily, and this semester with 5 subjects at uni, instead of the normal 4, and just after having come back from my trip, my car fixing days are over for the moment, leaving me no time to fix this... i just don't have the time it needs...

Insurance yes, but my excess for my age is $700 with Shannons.. so why bother is my question? Plus I don't exactly have that money available to me for this sort of sh*t fight...

I just really don't know what to do... Poored with rain on the way home to the coast, and water came all inside and saturated all the carpet and my bed and belongings.. its completely open to the weather.. so not really practical to drive in this whether..

Also found that the impact smashed my belongs inside the back as the door crushed inside the car, not only this but the speedo cluster had broken off its little plastic mounts that hold it in my dash from the impact and was left hanging over the steering column,, which to my dismay somehow smashed the one and only speedo cable i have, so no speedo again..

Last thing i found really worrying as I went to start the thing I found that my brakes went to the floor.. I couldn't believe it,, opened the bonnet thinking i had lost my fluid,,luckily i still had some, but its lost about half,,, but for the life of me I don't know why it would do this? So ontop of all that the brakes will have to be fixed..

This just seems the pits to me... I just think some wan*ke*s out there need to go and get their license skills checked to be really honest with you... I'm really sick and tired of being the one who's smashed into... and please for those who are going to write stupid smart arse comments like "buy another car, a bigger car so people can see you this time" please I don't want to hear that at the moment.. i love mini's and that's all that matters.. I shouldn't have to accommodate for those who can't see them.. It won't make a huge amount of difference they will still crash into you.. its about being exposed to it, and at the wrong place, wrong time.. so please don't BS me,, I'm so pissed off as it is, I don't need more upset than I already have...

Wow you're having a really really bad run lately, hey.

Sucks that people wouldn't even care to leave a note.

Hopefully the fix is quick and painless.

Dude age excess only applies if the car was being driven by someone under the age for it to kick in. Standard excess applies in this situation as the car was not being driven at the time of the incident.

i wondered about this... my parents and I came to the assumption that becuase its insured under my name, and my age, that it wouldn't matter... the owner is still under 25,, so that it was the same?

Not sure what the standard is, but I gather it would be around the 400-500 mark i think... not sure if it would still be worth it or not??

Trust me, it only applies when the person driving is under 25.
I think Danny works for Shannons. But i'll ask my make that works for shannons as well for you.

That really is a bastard act by whoever hit Gumby. :(

And yeah, some people really, REALLY shouldn't be allowed loose on our roads given the obviously poor eyesight & judgement thay possess.

Hope it all shakes out as pain-free as possible for you.

Hey Mate,

I'm happy to wander on down the road to help with the repairs. I'm no panel beater by any stretch of the imagination, but I have a mig welder, compressor/spray gear and some panel dollys if they're any help. I 'may' also have a spare speedo cable, will have a dig around in my spare parts collection for you.

Send me a PM if you want me to come around on the weekend.

Cheers

Clovus

Hi Lockie, Thats really bad luck and I feel your pain when these sorts of things happen to your pride and joy, especially after you have spent the past few weeks in a close bonding relationship while driving all over Australia. I also fully understand when you get upset by other people commenting on your obsessive love for the mini as I am most likely the same. Just dont tell my wife I made that comment. Hmm!! I think she already knows. :)
May I suggest you at least phone the insurance company and discuss with them what costs you may incurr for any excess, especially when the car was parked at the time.
Good luck and keep us all posted.
