Post subject:  Rusty Mini - rear storage bins

I have a mini that has some rust, ok extensive rust in the rear door bins and floor etc on both driver and passenger side...

Has anyone else had the same issues and successfuly fixed or is it a bugger of a spot to get right?

Front of the cars good, the back of the cars good, its the middle (these bins and floor under the back seat) thats the problem...

The car is a rolling shell so figure homework now might save me time and money down the track by trying to fix something thats not viable.

As always, any help appreciated. :)

Supreme be too big an issue to replicate the panel. Cut them out. Replace the floor then go about making new ones. Personally I wouldent bother repairing a bit of the panel. I think it would be easier to make it as a complete.

I purchased some replacement bins a few years back from a supplier in Sydeney (not sure if it was Mini Kingdom, or Mini Car Clinic) price was pretty reasonable. If you can still get 'em, I would cut the rusty ones out so that you can repair the floor section and at the same time check further down for any signs of rust in the rear sill area. It sounds like water has got in there at some stage, maybe from the side windows being left open or leaking seals.

If its rusted through the bottom of the bins then its probably gotten into the chassis rail. This is pretty tricky to restore as you need to remove a section of the floor and work in tight space to repair the chassis rail.

Fortunately its not a visible panel so it just has to be strong and not too pretty.

Ive gone through the same thing, Ill put up some pictures if I can find them.
