Im quite competent with stripping/re-building HS type SU's, but Ive just got myself a HIF44 that I would like to perform a complete rebuild on.

Which SU book covers the HIF series in detail?

I have an SU Workshop Manual that does cover them quite well and silly as it sounds, Haynes have one on Webers (Weber Carburator Manual) that also covers them quite well (and a number of other carbs).

Link here to a rebuild of a turbo HIF44. Probably the same as a normal one, which is why I'd bookmarked it.

Sweet. Thats a nice little tear down. Would still be good to get a book.

I noticed the dashpot spring in this is huge in diameter compared to the HS2. Its really soft to... like really..

Is there a better set up to use for the dashpot spring? I reckon this will cause issues with the piston lifting to quickly.

SU Carburetters, by the SU Carburetter Company, a subsiduary of Leyland Motor Corporation. I am unsure if it is still available, I've had mine close on 30 years now.

As mentioned above ^^, the Weber Book is also a good one, is still available and is a later publication than the SU one and has bits & pieces not covered in the SU Book.

<EDIT> I have not looked in this book, but could be worth a look

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Carburettors-Tu ... pd_sim_b_2

Those books coops has listed ^ could be quite good from a performance side of thing but not too sure on just the basic overhaul & maintenance type of stuff.

Well, there you have it. Coming from Des, it would be a bit 'dry' but very informative. Do you have this book coops?
