Could any one please tell me the size of and type of thread of the bolt which screws into the spare wheel well of the mini to secure the spare wheel. thank you. |

I'm interested in the response to this one - I have vague memories of people saying (or it may have been me) that there was never an actual clamp that screwed into it... it was put there by the factory, but didn't ever get used. Eventually they gave up on it because later cars (maybe '67 onwards?) didn't have it that said, it's likely to be 5/16 or 3/8 UNF |

I thought it was a British thing. The threaded base is present in Australian cars but the clamp wasn't supplied. I could be wrong though. Tim |

niceboy1275's 850 has the bolt for the spare wheel - I've never seen one before and it drew several comments at Goulbourn |

I have a spare wheel holder out of a english 850, I will have a look for it and post a pic. From memory the thread in the floor bracket is 3/8 UNF. |

OLDTIMER & SIMON. I was also after one of these. Looked everywhere. When I went to the 2009 IMM at Longbridge, I managed to get one. Should have grabbed a couple (LOL) Anyhow, they are 3/8 NF24. thread. Cheers Alex |

Tim this is what I'm thinking..... Just to add a bit more 'polish' to this topic. My original 65 deluxe has a securing bolt for the spare from new. My (now dead) Aunt whos car it was said she asked for some additions that were not on the car when she went to pick it up from the BMC Dealer, Tuckwells in Ryde, this included some period bling not usually seen on a Deluxe and a few other obvious missing bits (maybe this securing pin for the spare?). The Deluxe was due for collection at the same time as a Wolosley the family also bought - in matching white/blue paint/interior colour scheme. The Wolosley met expectations, but the Mini had to have some "rectification" before she was happy to drive away from the forecourt... |

I remember my first Mini (one in my Atvar) had one - but when looking for one a while back (and they are available in the UK) I was told by more learned people on this Forum than they were abandonded in Oz as the movement of the tyre ripped the boss out of the boot floor. It was found the weight of the tyre kept it in the well and the rear of the back seat was considered strong enough to prevent the tyre entering the passenger compartment in an accident. ....for what it's worth. |

Mine was a 64 model - and an import CKD car so maybe the Aussie production ceased them |
