Well its coming to my 18th in july soon, mean while my mini has been stored at my old mans garage up in a town called Birregurra, in between Colac and Winchealsea. So now i have organised payments for insurance, rwc, rego, all on road costs etc. Friday arvo the bad boy mini was booked in for a mechanical inspection etc for my rwc. Any HO, the 'ol man' calls me up late friday night and tells me the mini has been 'pinged' on the following:
Spare wheel in the boot needs to be held/tied down?
Two rear wheels poke out the flares a lil too much...
Rear left brake light bulb needs to be fixed...

Now, ive read threads such as these about passing rwc, and my problem was that i should left something for them to find, because its in great working order...these lil things piss me right off, cause 1; i now gotta find another 2 wheels for the rear to pass, unless i could pass with 2 different rear wheels? maybe, maybe not?, so im looking for some shitty wheels, 2 ; what exactly should i do about the spare wheel?.... and 3 ; its not really the brake light that shits me, its the fact i gotta rip out the fuel tank to access it...anyways its fixable...

now, i know what you guys are gonna say about the tread....dont ask...

Other than that my mini is all good....so im gonna be driving the bad boy down through Geelong, to Highett in Melbourne, in 2 weeks time, so if u see a Canary Yellow clubby - SSM, thats me. Now im thinking how does other peeps mini's handle doing 100 clicks on the Freeway???in forth gear?

Anyways i thought it was worth posting..... to keep an update on what is planned for my mini...im gonna be making a trip to A Grade panels to pick me up some 13 x 7 performance superlites - charcol ,(shitnit), and group 5 flares. Then i plan to get the mini panel beated professionally (some contact i got - friends), then i got another contact to spray the body Hot House Green, with a White roof, and im currently fixing up a clubman grill glossy black with a red badge, kinda restoring it.....now thats the exterior taken cared for....and the interior i aint gonna begin starting on that...

hope u fellas and ladies like ^^^^.....been a while since i spoke about my mini...
enjoy...post comments

Don't you just love tail-light issues that involve removing the fuel tank?
Sounds like she'll be sweet after all the work - Group 5 'arches look sweet on cluby's - Great to see another one of us 'Slabfronts' getting the respect they deserve.. They are Minis too!

Top Stuff.

Well for one...no Mini had the Spare wheel tired down in any way...so the inspector is wrong and you are fine..
Wheels poking out of the guards...Just find some 4 1/2 and chuck them on.
Check the Bolb and see if it blowen first...swop it over from the other side

Otherwise..no real biggies...could have been alot worse than that :!:
You will be right and not to much expence

Gaf is right - its deffinately boolshit about the rear wheel - after Mk1 it was just sitting in there free. You might wanna put it flat on the bottom though, not on the brace just so it looks neat. I reckon thats half the reason that people get failed is by not having everything neat and clean and drawing attention to stuff.

But I'd deffinately move that jack and the brace away from the battery before they weld themselves in forever.

After speaking to the 'ol man we are just gonna thread a bolt straight through the bottom in the middle of the spare to hold it down, as for the wheels, can some give me any documentation on the ARD for the wheels, this i can then present the rule saying something like....the wheels are not allowed to protrude more than 25mm, cause then i have a case against this inspecter and then no problem

I dont think the wheels can protrude at all. its so you cant clip anyone with them i think (can anyone verify this???), but the rear view mirrors stick out more than this???

the guys are right, minis never came with the spare tied down, but if you are going to mod it to have this capability then i think you would be better off welding something onto the boot floor rather that drilling through it. maybe, just to avoid putting a hole in your car! i reckon you will wake up one day to find your boot full of water if you drill it.

if you get those new wheels will you be selling those wheels that you currently have? i know numerous people (myself included) that love them!

when will you be passing through geelong? there is a certain ausmini moderator who lives there, as well as myself. going up the freeway you will be fine at 100 clicks, but keep an eye on the temp guage and take it easy.

A very sweet looking car mate, not sure if i like those strips donw the side though...but i still like it :D its one of the earlier clubies yeah? just judging by the grille pattern

Yeah see thats the problem i have heard so many different things about the rear wheels stickin out and all, i dont know what to think/believe. When u mean by my boot filling up with water do u mean condinsation? welding is an option...The new wheels im getting are around $1200 or $1000 with a trade in on my current mags...Yeah i understand Poeee lives around those areas, in 2 weeks time i'll be flying through. At 100 clicks and my temp gets up - hotter, do i back off a bit on speed or what? Its a '75 clubby, im workin on another grill so that'll change.

those stupid strips are the first things comin off...

Re the water: if you create a hole, water will get in. simple as that. even if you fill it up with a bolt it will still get in. you can probably knock up something like a plate with a bolt on it to stick your spare onto, then weld this to your bood floor. OR you could get evidence that it doesnt need to be bolted down, i think that would be your best bet as you wont have to structurally modify the car.

if you do start to get hot back it off a little, but if it doesn't help you will need to give the car a rest. but dont open remove the rad cap straight away!!! you should wait about 10-15 mins, maybe longer depending on how hot it is. but your motor will cool down much quicker than a larger engine, another benefit of a tiny car!!!
