Post subject: | Stiff change in rod change gearbox |
Have noticed lately that my gear change in the 3rd - 4th plane seems to be getting tighter. Is there any grease points like there is on the remote boxes? If not what is the usual problem(s) with the rod change mechanism to look out for? Jim ![]() |

What sort of condition is the two roll pins and the rubber cotton reels holding the stick housing in like? If any are worn bad enough there could be a misallignment issue causing that. ![]() |

![]() I was under the car recently, all the cotton reels are fine... the roll pins I don't know. The car is due a grease very soon, I'll have a look then. Is there anything that has to be greased on a rod change? ![]() |

About 1/2" - 3/4" in 3rd, about 1" in 4th. Also my car was originally a remote change, but NMP converted it to rod when the A+ gearbox and motor went in. Not sure if this is relevant or not. |

Could be a worn selector hub, worn selector fork and / or work spigot bearing (between 1st & 3rd mostion shafts), this is by no means certain, but that you have some play and all other gears selecting OK, tends to indicate that the shifter side of it is working alright. |

Thanks all for your help. I'll have a closer look underneath at the rod side of things soon. If it is the selector side of things in the gearbox, it will have to wait... for a while... a long while. ![]() |
