Ok this is all going to be pretty theoretical, so I more or less need to know whether what I am hoping to achieve is possible or not. Basically im removing the need for keys to my car and replacing it all with a remote. The only issue I have is getting it to work in conjunction to my car alarm immobiliser. Obviously I could over come this by carrying two remotes but Id rather not have to. This is the remote switch I will be installing: http://secure.oatleyelectronics.com//pr ... ce4553a44f Basically can I by pass my car alarms remote receiver module and wire it up to one of the momentary switches on the above unit? So it will all operate from the one remote? Thanks |

Yeah that does seem quite feasible for your existing alarm / immobiser and I do think your idea has merrit. I'm still thinking of all things that need to be considered, but one overall thing is what to do when you get a flat battery. I would strongly suggest you think about some sort of manual over-ride, obviously needs to be hiden and secure in itself. So this would be for entry and locking of the vehicle? What about some sort of ignition switch? Maybe an RFID Card? (Dunno how secure they are?) with an old fashoned / new fangled push button start? |

It would cover the entry exit and also switching the power on/off in the car. Ignition would be covered by a stainless push button with a toggle cut-off switch. |

As for the battery I will keep the lock on the boot so I can always jump it if necessary. |

Looks like you can do it all with the remote system you have linked. Link one of the relays up to a central locking module, use another as a 'master' realy to control all of your immobilisation points (more realys), another as 'accessories' and the last for 'ignition'... Easy

I want to continue to use my current rhino alarm setup but have it all working from the module above. Reason for this is I still want the alarm and other features. Ive been racking my brain for the last few hours but can't think of a workable solution... I was originally thinking plug the above remote unit into the rhino module more or less in place of the RF receiver. But being a rolling code im pretty sure this will be ineffective. Would I be right in thinking that the only way I can get this to work is by wiring the remote setup from above directly to the rhino remote itself and hard wire the remote to the power somehow so it does not need batteries. This way it will always pump out the correct rolling code. Thoughts...? |

What sort of Rhino alarm is it? Some old ones had a second button that would drive a relay momentarily that would do the job?? (I'm talking 10 or so yrs old - RDX/RDA, etc). |

Can you use the boot release function?( hold down button 2 for 2 secs) It says this function will not work when ign is on but you will use this output to drive a relay to turn ign on and then a push button in the dash to start the car?? Just a thought. |

Hi Seifer, You might like to have a look at this as an alternative: http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=LR8824&keywords=remote+relay&form=KEYWORD It's pretty much set up and ready to go, you'd just need to add some horn relays for your solenoid and general ignition circuit. Not sure how you'll interface with your alarm - you could set up one of the buttons to trigger a momentary pulse to the alarm fob button (assuming it has a single arm/disarm button?) but you're getting into finnicky territory there with a bit of delicate soldering. The only other issue you may run into is that ADRs after c.1972 require a real key which meets certain requirements - if you're pre 1971 you can do what you like though. |

Sorry I need to tear this thread back out for another bit of advice. I cant for the life of me figure out how the remote receiver is wired to the main board of the immobiliser so Im going to try and hardwire the remote as suggested before. Soldering the switch wont be too hard, i just need to connect the power to the 12v supply. The remote itself is 3v, running off two remote batteries, whats the best way to drop the 12v down to 3v? |
