I have been working on my mini in my carport and over the last few weeks i have been amazed by the number of random people walking past and tell me they used to have a mini and it was a Cooper S. Even a few friends of mine who are not car people tell me their parents had Cooper S' And they learnt to drive in them.

So how many did BMC make. It seems everyone has owned one at some time (apart from me :( that is)

 that many and still the asking price is high for one. I mean considering it really isn't a rare car, but then again to restore one it adds up.

Oh yeah not to mention race history

A lot were trashed in the 70s

I knew of at least 3 that were stolen on the weekend and the parts sold off on the Monday :(

They are rare due to the age and the fact that so many have been destroyed. The original build number really becomes irrelevant this far down the track. The biggest problem is the number of fakes built from real parts. I am guessing around one third of the cars on the road today are dubious.

Judging by the sheer number of people that I have met just in my area, I would've thought there were much more then 7500. Perhaps they had a mini of some description but the ones that are easiest for people to recall are the Cooper S, either that or each car has had 10-15 owners.

Nobody ever owns up to having a Deluxe or a K when they were younger. They always had a Cooper S.

It's like everyone who had an XY Falcon actually had a GTHO.

My 1st mini was a 1963 850 cost me $350.00 in 1968.

But it had an 1100 engine, 731 cam, twin carbs and was as quick as a Cooper S... :)
My second car was a Cooper S.

Michael, I can't lie, you know my first car was a Deluxe. Because it was later your daughter's car and thanks to your efforts is still on the road today. :)

Cheers,
