Anyone use them on your mini? How have you found them?

How long do normal plugs last?

Yeah my 2000 Pajero has them in the rearmost plugs apparently because they are difficult/impossible to reach without removing a whole pile of stuff from the engine.

I think they are mainly used for their long life so used where the plugs are difficult to access, my V8 SS Commodore has Platinum plugs which are another long life plug and they have a change interval of 80,000 km,
I have done 72,000 km on them now and they are still running perfectly.
They are expensive though, some thing in the region of $20 a plug, from what I have read.

Yes I use them,have done for about three years now.
I use the IW20 the heat range is good(thats the Nippon denso product.)
Just don't drop them when you are installing them

They are a better plug not only do they last longer but they put less strain on your ignition system and they last longer.

The Bosch brand also has 4 cathode terminals which is like indexing your spark plug but without the work and in theory should through the spark further.

In short Id probably have to be running short on other mods to drop $20 a plug into the mini.

Apparently, long life platinum plugs produce less HP than standard plugs and that they were only used to reduce the service interval on cars to make the running costs look better in new car sales and where replacing plugs is difficult.
I have heard you can gain HP on the dyno by using regular plugs in engines that are specified to run platinums? Anyone know more?

My AUII Futura had Iridiums in it when bought. Fuel economy was poor and the cruise control used to surge.
I pulled them out and found all the gaps had worn to .080". I closed them up to .040" and the econimy came back, car ran great again.
So I binned them and put standard NGKs in, these have done about 30,000km now so I should probably fit another set.
