Hi guys,
After a very long dormant period, I have pulled the mini out of hibernation, and for a couple of reasons I have decided to re-paint it.
1. I no longer want it this colour.
2. Some parts I never painted so I have stuff all chance of matching the colour.
So, my question is, how far do I have to rub back to re-paint if I am already happy with the body work I have previously done?
Last time I painted:
-2k hi-fill primer.
-Acrylic velocity red pearl.
-clear coat.
I have started sanding back to primer and metal in some places, but am wondering if this is really necessary?
I will be re spraying primer and acrylic top coat.

Are you painting it again using Acrylic? If so... to be totally honest.... and its not dodgy so don't get the wrong idea, it is infact common practice... if it doesn't
need sanding back to bare metal.. don't bother.
I'd just key the old paint (using 600grit paper) lay down 1 or 2 coats of
acrylic primer, then put down the new colour.
Honestly, that would be fine. If you took it to a shop, most of the time that's all they'll do if you tell them you want to paint it another colour.
The reason I stress ACRYLIC primer, is because 2k primer is harder... as a result, if you lay down the hard 2k primer over the top of the soft acrylic base, the new paint will chip easier... acrylic primer won't give this problem.
