My 69 model has it: my 61 didn't. Somebody else please fill the gaps?

So in the early cars, you had to switch the light on manually (with the slide switch if I am correct) ? |

Yes, the door switches came in around 1965 I think. Clubbys use a different switch to roundys, both were a crap switch really. The Rover had better switches (Made in Malta) and they will fit both. |

Late leyland minis use a different ones to the others, but i thought clubbies (ie early square noses) used the same as the roundies Ie a linreed round switch with the button in the middle. The later leyland minis had a switch in a small plate that screwed to the door frame piller |

If you try and fit the Clubby ones to a 61-70 roundy, you will find they are too long. You can cut and bend them but it makes a crap job. The Rover ones are short, and have a copper earthing strip and screw. Maybe are not original, but you can still buy them, and they are a very good switch. Working fine on my wasaMatic-bitsa.

Mini Door switches made in Malta would have to be Merit work brand. I remember that factory there when I lived in Malta over 30 years ago. They make stuff which is a bit like Hella. |

You are probably right. But they come in Rover packaging, not aftermarket. |

Just happen to be reading Parnells book and he says door switches were introduced in September 1964. At the same time the interior light switch black crackle finish on/off switcch changed to the white plastic one. Also coincided with the introduction of the instrument voltage stabilizer. He also gives UK car numbers that this happend on but thats irrelevant to us. No doubt we followed some time later |
