Post subject: | Auto Carby kick down rod problem |
Hi guys, Almost have lil egg's rebuild finished. Its running, just doors, bonnet, boot and windows left to put together. My problem is, I can't work out how the kick down rod (or governer control rod?) connects to the carby. It doesn't seem to fit, and when I "make" it fit onto the carby throttle thing (sorry I don't know technical terms) it holds the throttle half open. I feel im missing an extra rod or clip or something. Would someone have a pic of how the governor rod connects to the carby on a stocky SU? Thanks! Josh |

Leave it off. Just connect a choke cable to it instead and then you get adjustabe shift point! ![]() |

![]() There should be a clevis at the carb end and a threaded rose/heim joint with a locknut at the bottom attached to the bellcrank. The factory manual describes how to set the rod length -with a suitable lock pin to hold the bellcrank in place, loosen the locknut and unscrew the rod until it attaches to the throttle linkage so there is no tension on the throttle. Once set, if you shorten the rod a little, it will make the box change up at a higher RPM/road speed a little in each gear. Update - Have a look at Todd Millers site - http://members.tripod.com/austin_america/id72.html Update down the page talks about raising the shift points. cheers Kevin |
