Yea bad news for the lil beast. Has developed a rattle like noise. Sounds like a chunck of metal being thrown about inside a rocker cover. Now ive worked out the following; - only when moving any speed - not in engine as doesn't change with revs - can fault it turning left while driving slow eg. 5-10km (hasnt happened turning right yet) - happens in straight line also - car drives beautifully otherwise so no unusual vibrations or difference in driving - have looked for any obvious loose parts Any ideas? Maybe try new cv joints and failing that a diff/bearings |

I would say next to impossible, personally I'd save myself the heartache and remove the engine. |

dunno. I cant remember if they looked over the g/box while it was off or not. Ill have to ask em ay |

Perhaps something from up above the gear box let go and damaged stuff in the gearbox. That should be well in within warranty rights. |

Sounds like a CV joint to me if at full lock it makes a noise. Inner pot joint boots still good? no lube can make that noise but they are usually very reliable. Jack it up and have a poke around. Check the ball joints aren't loose or anything crazy like that. Having a hub nut loose can make that noise too (been there done that!) |

I actually just logged in to ask about the same problem! I have a 998, rod change gearbox, and it's just started making noises that sound like a chunk of metal being thrown around. It only makes the noise at speed, in any gear, but not in neutral (if put it out of gear and take the clutch out, no noises). As with yours, car drives beautifully, the only problem so far is the noise. My gearbox was a little worn to start with (slow changes down to second), but it looks like it may be time for an overhaul. Any more ideas? |

Yea could be the RH inner joint, as it has a grease weep around it. havent pulled the boot off yet as i had only about 30 seconds on the hoist lol. Not quite on full lock though but seems worse the tighter you turn. Irish Yobbo, mine does it even in neutral, as i can just cruise and hold the clutch in. stupid question, but revoming the diff means loss of oil doesnt it? may change the oil at same time then lol 
Also if I decide to change joints, is there a better version of cv joint to fit my leyland 998 remote change? |

Ok so a quick hoist on a two poster showed that all four of the the cvs are farked and its the RH outer cv/wheel bearing thats the culprit. So hopefully this weekend I can chuck new shafts and bearings in and see how goes
