Hi Everybody, finally finished with the valve clearances and happy with the result, valve duration, lift etc, took some time but got there in the end. Now that is out of the way , i am going to start on the brakes and suspension. I want to put hi lo`s on but am not sure what the hilo`s are replacing. Has anyone got a picture I can look at with them in position ?? All I know is that a full set consists of 2 adjustable "units" + 2 rods for the rear and just 2 adjustable "units" for the front. If I put these adjustable hilo`s on, would I need adjustable shock absorbers as well, as I am changing those as well. I must get round to finding out how to get photos on to the forum as I would like you all to see the car as it is now and then the finished product, as I couldn`t have done it without everyones help on this site. I think there is a "how to" on it so I`ll have a look. Jethro |

This is the only pic I have to have of a Hilo in a front subframe (subframe is not fitted to the car!)

Hi GT, didn`t know if a trumpet was the same thing as a strut. So the rubber ends ( are they called cones ? ) stay on the car. Jethro |

Jethro Yes, but make sure they haven't turned in to 'pancakes'. A Hilo is not a cure for squashed donuts (rubber cone). <EDIT> This is the only decent pic I have to hand of a rubber donut. This is a new one (it's also upside down!) but it will give you a good idea of what the rubber part should look like.

Ok, regarding the dampers, if the hilo`s are adjustable, do I need adjustable dampers as well, because I might as well change them whilst I have the chance as the fuel tank is out of the car. Jethro |

Jethro Not per se, you don't need to change them and you don't need (or want for road use) 'lowered' shocks either, but if you have some spare $$ then why not go for some adjustables. <EDIT> These are the ones I have used of late and found very good value for money http://www.minispares-online.co.uk/?cat ... od_id=2760 I have also used in the past Koni and Spax, both very good. The Koni's though, you have to undo one end to adjust, but can be re-built (don't know why you'd bother though). Not cheap. The Spax are easy to adjust, similar to the Gaz ones above, only you need a screw driver. Way over-priced IMO. |

No I wouldn`t like to lower the car as I think minis are low enough. With the adjustable shocks, the one behind the fuel tank, do you adjust it from the wheel side ?? Jethro |

Jethro Yes. There is a knob on the lower end. Easy to do. I have some in the workshop ATM. When I get a chance, I can through up a pic (won't be probably 'till Monday). |
