Post subject: | Cooper S Disc retaining pins |
Hi all, I've got 2 sets of disc retaining pins from 2 different Mini suppliers and both are too large to fit thru the calipers. Are my calipers normal??? Disc casting has 3242*13 LOCKHEED *A21241 I think * is 8 (hard to read) one set of pins are Unipart GBK 1010 Cheers |

Are you talking about steel pins? S calliper pads are held in with split pins, not solid steel pins. You can get the split pins from most nut & bolt suppliers, there roughly 1/8 x 65mm. |

Yeah split pins are what I meant, I've got 2 sets from 2 different well known mini suppliers and both are 2 big so starting to wonder if its my calipers that are different. |

They should be 1/8" diameter- sadly these are getting hard to find. Not made here anymore.... Everybody wants to supply you cheesey 3mm ones from PRC. Beware- these are soft and weak, you can bend them with your fingers- and if they break/wear through you can lose a pad like I did. Scary stuff! I now use 2 bits of 1/8" (3.2mm) dia welding electrode, cut 80mm long, with the ends bent over. Like this- |

OK, Thanks heaps Doc. I like your idea. The split pins I have are definitely bigger than 1/8 inch. |

I have noticed that in recent years they just give us the wrong pins. A little while ago, they were too short, now they're too fat. I do similar to the Doc. |

When our friends in PRC and other "manufacturers" on the sub-continent learn how to make quality fastners, maybe they'll start using 'em themselves................ |
