Are there any members here that have tried a ford on A-series gearbox adaption before?

Refering to 'how to modify your mini' Vizard states that with a few spacer plates, crankshaft adaptor, oil feed mods are what it takes? He also says the 105E anglia motor I think are very good for boring out and increasing capacity alot.

I had heard of the 1600 cortina motors being done years ago, but they would not be legal as greater than 15% capacity from standard. Maybe Anglia motor better option for road car?

'tis legal, you can go up to 1.8 or something N/A - but 1600 is OK, otherwise the few 1.6 Hondas that are registered wouldn't be legal

I noticed in a mini mag years ago someone put a Ford Escort OHC 1600 Pinto engine on a Mini box - had twin webbers poking thru the bonnet and was raced in historics in the UK - looked wicked

I have always wanted to build one with a RS2000 OHC Pinto engine - don't think the box would like it though

I have read somewhere that Richard Longman offered a kit

Like they used to do with BDA's they are mating the Swift Motor to the Mini Box. Different!

someone on here has been playing with a swift motor on a mini 'box, but I didn't find it

Yeah I remember something about that, they had to machine down the top of gearbox an inch or so? Project seemed to halt for some reason.

I used to have a standard Escort RS2000 many years ago, to imagine that motor in a mini would sure be a weapon. Yeah, I think the A series gearbox would be starting to struggle!

If anyone knows of a adaptor kit or makes one let me know - the wife wants her own Mini and I'd be inclined to do this or a twinky kit.

Someone in the UK was offering Ford 2 ltr BDA engine conversion kits too, but I don't recall anything regarding the then much needed bissalloy gearbox........

Talk to Henry Draper - he ran a Mini Sports Sedan back in the '70s with a 1600 Ford motor atop a Mini transmission.
