| Post subject: | Reducing pedal effort with pads? |
Before I go and install a booster into my car, just wondering what are the softest compound 8.4 brake pads available that anyone can suggest for me? I don't really have the weight to throw at my brake pedal constantly so want to give myself a bit more confidence in stopping.

Try the EBC Ultimax black pads. Work well without a booster on 7.5 discs for daily driving but dont try them for motorsport Check that these are the right pads before you buy http://cgi.ebay.com.au/MINI-MINI-MOKE-7 ... m20b8ae77f |

i think the blackstuffs are rubbish, i have to apply ridiculous force to get it to slow down with em on. i read somewhere that the pedal effort is high on purpose, to stop you from locking the brakes. |

I would imagine the stock factory type will be about the easiest on the pedal. If you're really after a "modern/soft" pedal then a booster is about the only way to go IMHO. cheers, Jacob |

i read somewhere that the pedal effort is high on purpose, to stop you from locking the brakes. I have had a set of blacks in my car for 2 years ( about 30k kms ) and drive it every day in traffic. I also do some spirited driving in the lower blue mountains. I have not had brake fade in that time and I have locked the fronts on several occasions. As for pedal effort, I found no difference between standard pads and blackstuff pads. IMO you can not go past blacks in a daily driver. Cheers Pete |

I ran blackstuffs in Barney and I currently have them in mine too. As Pete said they are hard to beat in a daily, but PROVIDED you don't go on sprited runs down them thar hills... you will fade em and they'll go tata until they cool. Been there, done that, a few times. Greenstuffs stop lots better than blacks when hot, but when cold with no servo you have to stomp on em harder. |

Yep disks are glazed as well as the pads ... i never had mine fade on the track but they were crap until they became warm dont know if this was from being heat cycled or what .. i would and do use these http://www.minisport.com.au/prod547.htm Beanie |

Remember, when fitting any new pads and / or disc rotors (or fresh machined ones) that they need to be bedded in carefully before using them hard. Same with shoes and drums. |

i remember thinking the blackstuffs were acceptable for town use when i first installed them, but they were still very easy to fade so i cant recommend them and wouldnt use them again. i'm not used to driving a mini anymore, so i guess the pedal effort isnt as bad as i think

The EBC blacks were better in my 1275 LS with 8.4's than they are in my van with 7.5's... I mean in regards to pedal pressure. Having said that... I used to drive the LS daily, and now I drive a modern car daily. |
