| Post subject: | Brake and Clutch Pedal Heights |
I've just fitted my pedal box and new brake and clutch masters and...my pedals aren't level. The brake pedal sits quite high and the clutch quite low....have I done something wrong or is this normal? |

Its like that in most cars isnt it, for when you slam your foot on the brake. That way your hitting the brake and brake alone.. |

Not sure bout that well not in any of the minis I've driven even the utes at work are fairly level. Mts ... How low is low? Are we talking a couple of cm or a few inches. Have any pics will help someone in the know let u know.

The pedals should sit so that a fully depressed brake is equal in height with the accelerator, right? At least, mine sits that way, makes double clutching easier

You haven't used one rover pedal and one aussie pedal have you? There's a height difference of about an inch and a half. |

Brake pedals on disc braked cars do sit higher than drum braked cars. The disc brake setup uses a booster, which increases the travel, and the pistons in the calipers need more volume of fluid to move which also increases the travel. This is compensated by the pedal sitting higher initially, otherwise it might have to travel through the floor. On the good side, when you are braking hard and heel-toeing, it will make your foot sit at about the right height to blip the throttle. I find that my drum car pedal sits a bit low for that now it has the discs fitted. cheers michael |

Are the Master Cylinders standard or after market. I have found the piston rods are too short on the chinese / after market ones. I usually extend the clutch one by 1/4 inch to fix the problem you talk about Lengthing the push rod lifts the pedal upwards Kiwiinwgtn |

In the later cars (~75 on) they do sit at different heights. There are shims that are fitted (usually) under the clutch master cylinder and by doing so lowers the pedal (closer to the floor). God only knows why these are factory fitted, I fling them, but even with the shim removed, the clutch pedal is still lower than the brake. |

wouldn't worry too much. My clutch as always been lower then the brake. In 7 of my 8 cars I've had all brake pedals have sat higher and not same level. I find this better as others have meantioned as when braking hard, and can tap the accelerator with ease |
