Hi all,

The PO did a dodgy on the bonnet latch. I've got the bits sorted and put it back together. But, how does the spring (the one that pulls the sliding latch part over to the side) attach to body? Got to be simple, but it's driving me crazy!!!

Rup

Hi Rup,
Is this a clubby front? If it's like mine, the spring goes under the divider behind the grille, and attaches to a small hole directly behind the grille (so the hole is to the right of the divider, even though the latch is to the left). If you stick your head down into the engine bay and look back, you should be able to see it. It might be easiest to take the grille of to put it on (if it isn't off already).

That's assuming it's meant to be this way - looks a little strange to me.

If it's your K (roundnose) it should look like this photo. This is taken from in the engine bay looking forward. There is (or should be) a small hole in the back of the closing panel.

Just checked out you old gallery post and it's there with the spring attached in the right spot but thats the wrong spring. The spring should look like mine. MiniKing Narellen have the correct spring if you need it.

Your old latch may be an old BMC accessory one. Did it realease via a cable (or used to).

Was it like this?? (Posted recently By Morris 1100 here http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=70154)

EDIT: If the latch you have is one of these then it looks to use a different spring between the top and bottom part of the latch as per box illustration below (not to the body).

Ausmini to the rescue: post, go shopping, come back, read replies, fix, feel warm glow!

Thanks Irish Yobbo.

Yes, sorry should have mentioned its a roundy. Found the hole!

Thanks Phillb,

The picture you dug up from my gallery is as received from the PO. The other pic you posted is exactly what I needed. Now I've got it looking like that. And, yeah the spring seems a bit wrong, not much tension in it. I'll add one of those to my MiniKing wish list.

Ta heaps
Rup

Glad to help.

Yeah mine had the wrong spring when I got the car too, I guess they break then people just use whatever they can find. If that spring is too weak you might find the bonnet popping open when u drive.

Until you get it properly fixed make sure the secondary safety catch is grabbing OK in case it pops open.

Yeap, secondary catch works. It's been very thoroughly tested on several occasions
