Post subject:  Running On

I have a serious issue with the bloody thing running on.

Ever since Darwin where i had to adjust dizzy timing, adjust the carby and deal with very very bad humidity, since i got back in the dry the car just runs like a bucket of crap.

Ive adjusted the dizzy again, and its a million times better, but i cant seem to stop the sucker from running on when i turn the motor off.

I also get some pops when i start it up, like a valve is closing to early.

Any advice on what to look at. Im considering just taking the head off and doing a head gasket and exhaust gasket to make sure there are no leaks in either.

Oil change, water change last week, its holding oil and water no probs.

If I remember right , one previous person who had been doing lots of miles developed a running on problem, this was a combination of a stretched timing chain - so timing was out = running lean/ hot , SU float problem = overfilling, choke cable not fully closing = running rich , so a motor that is running hot with the timing out but is getting extra fuel= turning off the motor with fuel still bleeding through= running on , now that was the problem for them but you will just have to check and test as best you can , all the best

Thanks for the tips, i had been thinking timing chain, its a little tappet noisy.

And you try getting good fuel in the outback/top end, you just cant. Its a petrol sniffers dream to steal that from your car. Dirty fuel is rife too because of humidity.

Ill check the carby, and strip it down, and work my way down. I have a spare double row chain, but thats a bit of effort to change, so id like to eliminate everything else first.

If i do a head gasket, ill do the chain at the same time.
