ausmini :: View topic - disc brakes in wet, pulls to left

Hey all

In my Gt when driving in the wet if i apply the brakes it pulls to to the left.

My explanation as to the cause is the drivers side wheel etc will get more water onto it than the left due to the oncoming traffic and hence because the disc and pad are wetter it doesnt grab as well as the dry passenger side.

Is this normal?

Well the front hoses are all brand new, the master cyls have been rebuilt as well as the calipers.

It only occurs in the wet, in the dry it is fine and doesnt do it.

also after a few brakings in the wet (i assumed to dry them) they pull up correctly. but drive a while again and brake it will pull to the left

Those green wheels look hot :roll:

I mean i cant put new wheels on it, they wouldnt match the car :lol:

i duunno but are the back brakes adjusted correctly. could cause it in the wet.

NOT normal mate. Check your front brake hoses, how old are they... they swell shut when they've had it.

Thanks Brenton are you sure it's not those green wheelies your brother gave to you, that you have on it? ... my bet is the brake hose or, try bleeding the whole set of wheels again, and see if that helps.. mite have a pocket of air developed in that wheel??

Check your wheel alignment as well while your at it. Might be a small error that is magnified by the wet.

Why would the brake hoses make it when pull when wet but not dry? It's not hoses Could be any one of a number of things. Start by checking air pressures in the tyres and then swapping the front ones side to side. Try the simple things first before undertaking a full brake restoration.

I already did a full brake restoration.(basically) Mastercylinders rebuilt new brake cylinders Rebuilt calipers. 3x brake hoses (left the drivers rear- worked, and too much of a pain to replace) Only things i didnt replace are front brake pads, booster,discs It brakes as it is supposed to when its not raining/wet. It brakes as it is supposed to after a few brakes in the wet (presumably when the pad and the disc is dry) So to me it has something to do with water

Could be the pads are glazed- remove and check. You can deglaze them on a belt linisher or sander (carefully) or drag them over concrete or similar. If they are old/worn/dirty/you dunno what they are, I'd buy a new set.

I would swap parts from drivers to passenger side as a process of elimination 1 check tyre pressures 2 swap wheels, left to right 3 swap brake pads, left to right If still no different I would then bleed the brakes again 4 swap calipers If still no better then look at hoses, pipes, could even be the brake balance unit which is mounted on the bulkhead. Good luck

When the discs are wet initially the rear drums do more of the work, so small differences in shoe adjustments are much more noticeable. An easy fix.
