I need to strip all the paint off the inside of my bonnet

I purchased some Tergo Strip, industrail paint stripper,

The 2Pak paint just laughed at it.

I even degreased with prepsol and roughed up the paint with 120 grit

Can any one recommend a good product

An angle grinder or drill with a wire wheel attachment. Paint stripper is a whole lot of hard work for very little gain...

some strippers are stronger than others and as such you may need to give it a couple of goes. It is always good to cover the stripper once applied with glad wrap. This stops it from drying out too quickly therefore allowing it to carry out its work whilst you go off and do something else.

That works well on acrylics and enamals, but on most 2 paks it usually gets VERY hot before you get there, can cause distortion.

I have used paint stripper lots of times with good results, surprisingly not this time

There is only one coat of paint on the bonnet as well.

I can see why 2pak is so good, its tough stuff

I have brought a stripex wheel today as a last resort

I usually brush the stuff on have a cuppa a little scrapping and a clean panel

I will have another go in the weekend

There must be a product out there to make life easy I do have a portable bead blaster I could use, Its a horrible dusty gritty job

The best method I've found is the cheap triangular type "non-directional" sander I bought from bunnings. It was cheap and one of the best tools I've bought. It gets into about 95% of everything I used it for. Start with about 80 grit then again with 120 grit to give a perfect metal finish for primer.
It wont distort panel, and you'll use it over and over.

There are some "Mouse /palm type" versions, but the full size ones are good. 12 months warranty too!

Yeah, Tergo Strip. Oh no, hold on... I'm really surprised it didn't work as that stuff is evil as I'm sure you know. One tiny dot really stings - I hate using it with a passion, but I sometimes soak small parts in it. Not my small parts obviously..

Anyway, what about getting it dip stripped? There's an outfit in Porirua from memory who do whole shells, which might be worth it in terms of hassle and time saved.

Is this a flapper wheel? If so I'd really recommend a rethink. They tend to be too aggressive - you'll get the paint off, but you also risk leaving an uneven surface, they'll actually remove metal.

^^^ I think they're a coarse scotchbrite type disk, which I love for removing paint, but not sure how they handle 2 pak. They're great for large areas and the corners you can tidy up with a sand blast, minimising the mess.

Angusdog is correct re the striptex wheel they work well but paint stripper should work better

But not too good around the bonnet corners and hinges

You definatley need eye / face protection though

we use paint stripper at work all the time and it tears thru 2pak no probs.
If is is decent quality stuff it should have no problem lifting it.
We use "CAM" brand stuff. $50 a can, but its one of the best.

ur best bet is to contact a panel shop near you.. Or a automotive paint supplier as they will be able to point you in the right direction of an effective product available in NZ
