Hi everyone, can someone please tell me when buying parts from overseas, when parts land in OZ do they get delivered to your door??Never bought parts from overseas before so I know some of you will think this is a stupid question but I am trying to picture how I get them.

Yep! No different to buying in Aust.....just cheaper! But don't order over $1000 as you might be up for duty!

Yes provided they are below $1000 value they get delivered to the address you nominate, no problem.
However if value is above $1000 you may also be liable for both import duty and 10% GST.
GST (if applicable) is levied on the total value of goods + freight.

Especially with the exchange rate now. I've been buying parts from the UK for years, but I've never seen such a good rate. 10 years ago it was half what it is now. That means everything is 50% off!

Trouble is, my budget is about 5% of what it was 10 years ago when I was single and childless.

I would also recomend buying only from a reputable over seas supplier.
I have been stung from sellers on ebay and such.

/\ What he said... stick to the big 4 UK suppliers... The ones with the good internet shopping.

I tend now to leave a message with my order that if anything that I ordered is unavaliable, NOT to credit the money back to my credit card.... you get hit with 2 lots of conversion fees and lose lots of money that way... better to have it as a store credit for the next order


And remember $1000 includes your freight which is expensive

Also, make sure you get it delivered to an address where there is someone to recieve it... alot of the time companies like UPS take days and days to redeliver and if you miss it a second time there will be a fee... they don't like private addresses I send mine to work

Just remember to label them as reproduction parts for a vehicle more than 30 years old and you pay no duty, only admin/ paperwork fee's

I like Minispares freight calculator at the checkout - If you dig into it you can see the chart on how it works but basically it is weight and volume - you can keep adding small items until it trips the next point then go back one. This works in your favour if you buy something bulky but light - you still can add more items to make up the weight for that volume and pay the same freight. - More items per buck

Be warned - preparing the "wish list" is addictive, comparing prices between the various on-line suppliers is as compelling and taking a deep breath and pushing the "checkout" button can lead to a very light headed feeling and terror that your other half will walk in and see what you are upto. Unfortunately, as the rebuild draws to an end, the amount of generic Mini parts that you can get from the UK diminishes and you are stuck with trying to find bespoke Australian parts that haven't been produced for 40 years - but damn, it is fun...
