Hello All Im keen to buy and install a repo headling on our mini, can anybody help with tips tec.. where to buy how to fit do's and dont's cheers tsb |

I've fitted a couple. Get youself some strong spring clips (Bulldog clips from a stationary suppliers is good, go for the bigger ones, but a few medium ones can also be helpful). I used Selley's Contact Cement for adhesive. Clean the rim of the body down ready for glueing but don't apply any at this stage. Clean the lining too. Fit the bows to the lining (note that they do have a particular order) and then fit the lining and bows in to the car. There should be plastic buckets in the shell that the ends of the bows go in to. These are to stop rattling etc. They are available new (Try Spectrum Rubber, P/N 892.231). Begin by trial fitting the lining to the body using the Bull Dog clips to hold it in place. If there is no Sun Roof, I usually start in the middle (at the B pillar) then work back, then the front. After you get it clipped in plce, have a good look at all the seems inside. You want to get them straight and square, so a bit of fiddling will be needed and you'll probably go back and forth a couple of times. The more time sent doing this, the better the finish will be. Once you're happy with that, time to start glueing. I usually start at the rear window and move forward, but shouldn't matter. Un-clip a short section, just enough only to roll it back enough to brush some glue in. Let it tack off, then stick it and clamp it. Let that sit for about 10 minutes or so before moving on to the next section. If the weather's cold, it may take a little longer. Have some old C pillar internal trims handy so you can shove them in the C pillars, with some wedges, while the glue is tacking off. The A and B pillars need carful cutting to get right, but are not difficult. I usually cut the excess off before doing these, then tackle the pillars. Best cut long and then trim back to get right. I use a steel rule to push the folded bit under the steel 'clip' that's on the B pillar and when doing the A pillar, make sure both sides are even. Take your time. It's not a big job by any stretch, but just one that cannot be rushed. Or as Doogie suggests, most Professional Trimmers don't charge much to do them. |
