GT,
When you say the copies are worse, do you mean direct copies that are pretending to be the real thing, or do you mean similar products which provide the same function?
Given the awful rep the NOS Lucas units have, I'm on the verge of trying out one of these instead:

Well, yes and no. I think there are a few different Lucas copies about. The ones I've seen are rubbish, however, I'd suggest you have a chat to Convertable Mini's ^ as I think he has some good ones.
The Narva ones do appear robust, but I have found the Narva stuff cheap that only lasts a short while, it is not what I'd call 'quality' but a bit better than some of the rubbish out there.
Those Narva Blinker Switches also have no self cancel feature, so just be aware of that too.
The ones I've been buying the last few years come in a red Lucas Box, they have a different plug on them, but no biggy to swap over. Be aware too that there were something like 40 or 50 similar Lucas ones, but different lengths, ends, 'flashers' or 'no flashers' and shapes, so if you're unsure if the one you're about to buy is suited, take your old one along to check, but generally all will fit, just 'funny lengths and angles' so if you're willing to accept than, then there are plenty out there.
I never ever bother with second hand ones, it's a good way the wear out the screws on the steering column cowl!
I'm sure too if you spent some time at the wreakers you'd find some from other cars that would fit well and do the job.
