this one, or any earlier version - http://www.sucarb.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?id=32041

I'd like to know what the compressed height of a HIF44 type dashpot spring should be - apparently it's on page 158

Simon - I have the 7th edition - August 1993 (and the SU Midel catalogue 1974).

On page 176 it has the HIF Service and Repair Guide that occupies 3 pages. Nothing there about compressed height of the spring that I could see.

Page 114 describes piston springs. It has a table with 10 springs listed by colour and for each spring shows Type (A or B), Load at Length (e.g. light blue spring is 2.5 ozs and 2.625 inches) and the part number (AUC 4587).
Do you know what colour your spring is? Is this the information you are after?

I can scan the pages and email to you if you wish.

thanks Kevin, that's exactly what I was after :D

much shorter measuring point than I imagined, Des Hammill's book shows a HS type spring compressed at about 2.5", but no measurements

That's quite kind of Rathcole to post that up, but be aware Simon, that the springs compress further than this. This is only for checking the spring tension, thats what the 'weight' i in front of the measurement eg at a compressed length of 1.530" the Green Spring exerts 12 Oz force.

yep, well aware of that GT - I have a few springs and would like to see what they are, I would also like to fiddle with non-SU springs from the local spring shop. I wanted that measurement so I can compare apples with apples :)

No worries. Just from your original post it sounded like the fully compressed length you were after. Search is your friend (as they say)
