Post subject:  Battery Cable

Hi All

This probably seems like a noobie question, but I'm looking at replacing my battery cable as its been removed while I do a full car rebuild. Its looking a bit dated (40 odd years).

Would something like this be suitable. I have a 1968 Mini-Matic with negative earth.

They make a note in the other battery cable which is available that the automatics used a 131" cable hence me looking at the slightly longer (by 3") one.

Any recommendations/suggestions would be great.

Thanks

That's a nice price, I'm not sure given the weight how freight will skew the cost however.

You can get the cables locally from an autospark, and they can terminate it while you are there. This is easy given you know the length from the cable you have. Alternately, you could source the cable yourself from a welder's or electrical supply shop and also terminate it yourself.

...but it's hard to ignore the price from minispares as it is after all ready to go.

except it probably will be quite a bit too long, because it suits the pre-engaged starter so would go all the way around to the post on the starter motor.

Where does the solenoid mount on an australian 'matic?

I'd measure the old one to see how long it is

If you tell me what length you want it I can make you one. I am sure post from Bris to Melb is cheaper than UK -Australia. email me if I can be of help.

Thanks guys.

The current cable length is approx 2.7m (106"). It doesnt have the battery connector on the end as I had to take it off to get through the hole in the boot.

For the Mini-matics, the cable comes up from the gap of the subframe where the hydro & brake line feed through and joins onto the solenoid just above the oil dip stick. The solenoid is connected to the bracket for the top right engine steady.
