Post subject: | Baulk Rings |
Alright, I'm looking into a gearbox rebuild soon, and was looking at baulk rings. So far I've read that: - New ones are rubbish - Don't get sintered ones - Get genuine rovers ones (even though they're sintered) - Use old ones Now I think my 3rd and 4th gears are salvageable, but I'm not sure about the 2nd and 1st. So I'll probably be looking at some new ones here. So what's the go? I imagine the <$10 are no good, right? Looking at minispares (other retailers seem to have the same sort of thing), they have genuine rover rings (sintered). But they also have machined rings, and say on that page that the sintered ones are no good for racing, and "in many instances lasting only one race before failure!" If they only last one race, how many days will they last on the road? So, should I be getting the machines ones? Are the genuine rover ones that bad (they're sometimes more expensive than the machined ones)? What would you recommend? |

Have a talk with Lindsay Seibler, he lists the genuine rings and some after market ones. I've used genuine and other ones recently without any problem. If you want, you can also surface 0.025" off the face of the ring to give greater clearance (and longer life). |

I spoke to Neil at "Cooper S Imports" last year about the new baulk rings that are available, and whether they'd improved. He said he's sold a lot to people and no issues |
